CACAO

Theobroma cacao L

Peruvian cacao is cultivated in the jungle at altitudes between 300 and 900 meters above sea level, in regions like Cusco, San Martín, Amazonas, Piura, Ayacucho, and Junín. These regions account for 80% of the country’s total production. For centuries, cacao has been considered the "food of the gods," as suggested by its scientific name, Theobroma. This ancient fruit contains more antioxidants than green tea and wine, and it also provides vitamin C, phosphorus, and magnesium, among other nutrients. It is known as a potent arterial regulator, cancer preventer, and diabetes risk reducer.
